Steps to Salvation

Self Deficiency or All Sufficiency?

Why do I hold onto the self-limitations that keep me from experiencing God’s very best life? Why do I deny the greater power of my Creator to do more than I can even imagine? Why do I fail to ask for help?

Truly there is a better way than what I’ve been living: “I can’t live like this anymore!” So I cry out, in a weak barely audible voice: ”Help me God…help me.”

This was all I could say my first simple prayer in the wilderness. It is hard when you don’t even know what it means to believe in a Higher Power or even begin to understand faith. I had a very hard time connecting to a personal loving God because of my childhood issues, abandonment, pain and suffering.

It really is a simple choice…Am I going to rely on my own power (ultimately weaker) or Am I going to take a leap of faith and trust my Higher Power to do for me what I can not do for myself?

Seven Keys to Opening the Door to Spirituality & Experiencing God

  1.  Awareness: We honestly assess our life and recognize we are helpless and weak. We
admit we need help and can’t do it on our own.
  2. Allow: We open ourselves to God and allow Him to come into our heart and dwell within us.
  3. Ask: We humbly call out to God and invite HIM to come and reveal Himself to us. We ask for God to give us His Holy Spirit so that we may receive comfort, faith, understanding, wisdom
    and strength.
  4. Acknowledge: We humbly acknowledge God is our Higher Power, our Creator, Redeemer, Savior and the Lord of our Life.
  5. Admit: We confess our sin ( bad choices, mistakes, broken relationship, transgressions) releasing all of our doubt, shame, guilt and fear. We ask God to forgive us and to remove all of our
sin. “Create in me a clean heart O, God and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm
  6. Access: We may boldly and confidently approach God’s throne of grace as we seek Him with all our heart, mind and soul.  Hebrews 10:19-25*
  7. Action: we continually ask, believe and receive God’s love and grace for the victories we desire.

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free!” John 8

The first key is “awareness of our need”, as we let go of our shame, guilt and fears. So much stuff separating us from the source of life! Self can be so deceiving, as the little voice keeps us stuck in our own sabotaging ways.

The second key is “admitting our weakness,” we can’t do it on our own. We need help. Acknowledging  repentance, turning away from our sins.

Letting go sounds easy but it isn’t for many nor is it instant. It is a continual process of peeling the layers of life, turning away from our sins of the past and confessing our present needs.

A Call to Persevere for a New Way to Live

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.  Hebrews 10:19-25 New Living Translation (NLT)
